Alaska Ferries sailing between Haines, AK Juneau, AK and Skagway, AK

Mt. Mount Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier sheouded by clouds

Juneau is located in the Alaska Panhandle and is only accessible by either air or water. The population in 2014 was estimated at 32,400. It is located at the base of Mt. Juneau and the 26,7 km long Mendenhall Glacier is only 19 km from Juneau - they can be located in the middle of the photo above.

Favourtie Channel, the fjord between Juneau and Skagway

The fjord between Juneau and Skagway is the 25 km long Favourite Channel and we were lucky when we left Haines that the fog was lifting and the sun started to break through the clouds. This formed some very interesting cloud formations along the mountain range. Alaska Ferries is operating very comfortable ferries with great seating and large clean windows. There is an open space on aft on the ferry where I spent most of my time.

Alaskan mountains from the ferry between Haines and Juno

As the fog lifted it hung around the top of the mountains and formed interesting configurations. Every mountain had glaciers of various sizes and rivers to the base of the mountains.
