Hyder, AK - main activity is tourism
Hyder is known for bear watching, black and grizzly bears. This is the location that a lot of tourists visit. We were too late this year - best time is second half of August. There is a boardwalk along Fish River and one can watch salmon spawning and then die. The bears have fish "unlimited". The pathway in the front is a sign that the location is frequently visited by bears.
Parallel with the Fish River is the Salmon River. In the fall this area, as well as the Portland Canal (connecting with the ocean) is subject to a lot of fog. We were to visit Salmon Glacier, but the fog made us change our mind.
