Impressive construction - Stave Chuch, Torpo, Norway
I was impressed with the construction of the church, considering that the building to place around 1160. This is the interior of the tower.
It was sad to see the destruction of the interior of the church, by some of the former religious societies. One can clearly see the damage done..
I borrowed this photo from Fortidsminneforening (Ancient Monuments Society), since too many peoiple wetre in the small church for me to take any good pictures. I read that many people feel the following when being inside a stave church: " There is something very appealing about Norway's stave churches - with their lofty steel-roofed, deep-caved, pagoda-like silhouettes and internal wooden smugness, like the inside of a sailing ship. They are different from the cool stone structures of the medieval parishes".
